December 13th 6:30-8pm at Inner Alchemy Shop, 16 South Tracy Downtown Bozeman

A monthly hand-building clay class open to all, and all experience levels. We will be using a recycled stoneware clay from the studio.

You will be given instruction from Lauren Woods, she will also supply the following :

- Ample clay to explore + work with

- Hand tools, carving tools, brushes, sponges, any tools needed

- Underglaze to decorate your pot

- Lauren will finish, fire, sand, glaze and glaze fire for you

- Light snacks and beverages provided, feel free to bring what you feel you need though :)

Run down: you will arrive at the studio by 6:25, class will start promptly at 6:30pm to ensure we have ample time to make + play! You will be given initial instruction by Lauren, then set free to create, Lauren will be available the entire time for questions, troubleshooting and assistance. You will be able to create at least one piece that you can paint, carve and design, Lauren will then finish, sand, glaze and glaze fire your work for you.

Timeline for Clay : okay so the number one question I get is "when will my work be finished?" so below is a little timeline to help bring understanding to the process :)

1) you make something, slowly let it dry for about a week, longer if it is thick in any spots.

2) if needed, say a mug, the piece will get trimmed on a kick wheel to eliminate any excess weight and clay.

3) once the piece is totally bone dry, they get loaded into the Bisque Fire, which takes about 1 day to fire and two days to cool down enough to unload it.

4) then every single piece needs to get waxed, glazed, wiped down and reloaded into the glaze fire. The glaze fire takes about 1.5 days to fire and 3-4 days to cool enough to unload depending on load.

5) once cooled, the work is unloaded, then sanded and checked for inconsistencies or imperfections.
